  1. Bf 109G BOMBER INTERCEPTION TRAINING

  3. As the Bf 109 was the Luftwaffe's most
  4. common fighter, it was often used to
  5. intercept and break up Allied bomber
  6. formations.  However, because its top
  7. speed was only 386 mph, the 109 was
  8. quite vulnerable to the defensive fire
  9. of the bombers.  Its inline, liquid-
  10. cooled engine was also prone to being 
  11. damaged easily, especially as compared 
  12. to the air-cooled, radial-engined 
  13. FW 190.  Many Bf 109s were eventually 
  14. relegated to flying top cover for the 
  15. 190s, while these aircraft attacked 
  16. the bombers.

  18.                     YOUR MISSION
  19.  
  20. You and your wingman must take off and
  21. intercept a formation of B-17s before 
  22. they bomb the munitions factory at 
  23. Wilhelmshaven.  The bombers have two 
  24. P-47s escorting them, but concentrate on 
  25. the bombers.  If a P-47 gets on your 
  26. tail, try to shake him, but don't let the 
  27. bombers reach their target.

  30. 30-mm MK 108 cannon pod.
